Indigenous Peoples Day Newton, which helps organize the largest IDP celebration in our area each October, is holding two events this month.
Powwow and the People Who Bring It to Life
An exhibit on Native American powwows through the lens of local photographers Scott Strong Hawk Foster & Dr. Rob Adelman.

Quinobequin Intertribal Paddle
A leisurely midday paddle on one of the more beautiful stretches of the Quinobequin (Charles River)! Along the way, you'll have the chance to hear from special guest Danielle Frank of the Hoopa and Yurok tribes about their recent success undamming the Klamath River and the return of the Salmon. You’ll also hear about local efforts to undam the Charles River from members of the CRWA team, the sacred Taíno traditions of canoes from Dr. Darlene Flores, and reflections from Toodie Coombs of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe and other local Native culture bearers.
