Dear Arlington friends and neighbors,
Arlington Public Schools and the Math Department are hosting a screening of the documentary Counted Out on Monday, April 28, 6:00-8:30 PM at Arlington High School on the Forum Steps.
About the film:
"In the 21st century, fueled by technology, data, and algorithms, math determines who has the power to shape our world...
Through a mosaic of personal stories, expert interviews, and scenes of math transformation in action, Counted Out shows what’s at risk if we keep the status quo. Do we want an America in which most of us don’t consider ourselves “math people”? Where math proficiency goes down as students grow up? Or do we want a country where everyone can understand the math that undergirds our society—and can help shape it?"
The event includes a short introduction, the 90-minute screening, and a 30-minute post-screening discussion about the film's themes. This event is open to the APS community (families, students 10+, staff, admin, etc.), and is free, but we ask that those who plan to attend register using the Eventbrite link. Food will not be provided, but attendees may bring snacks.
