Arlington Human Rights Commission 

AHRC works individually and collaboratively with other groups in our community to celebrate the ever-changing tapestry of the Town of Arlington, Massachusetts, and to emphasize through educational outreach the danger of intolerance at every level. The Commission advances issues related to the fair and equal treatment of individuals and to investigates complaints arising out of these issues.  

Protected classes in Arlington, Massachusetts, are: race, color, religious views, national origin, sex, gender identity and expression, citizenship, age, ancestry, family/marital status, sexual orientation, disability, source of income, and military status. See the FAQ page for more information regarding nondiscrimation laws.

Commission Vacancies


AHRC

The Arlington Human Rights Commission has a vacancy. All interested parties are encouraged to apply. The Town strives to have Commission membership reflect Arlington's diversity.

The AHRC was created by Town Meeting in 1993 to advance issues related to the fair and equal treatment of individuals and to create a mechanism for addressing complaints arising out of these issues. The AHRC is governed by the Town of Arlington, By Law, Title II, Article 9.  Meetings are usually on the third Wednesday of the month at the Jefferson Cutter House on Mass. Ave. in Arlington, Massachusetts.

LGBTQIA+ Rainbow Commission 

The Town of Arlington seeks to appoint seven members to the newly created Arlington LGBTQIA+ Rainbow Commission, which was established by the 2017 Annual Arlington Town Meeting. The Commission will consist of six members to be appointed by the Town Manager, approved by the Board of Selectmen, and one member appointed by the School Committee.

The Rainbow Commission was created to promote equality-affirming policies regarding the full spectrum of sexual orientations and gender identities and to bring greater visibility and empowerment to the LGBTQIA+ population through education, advocacy, and collaboration with other Town agencies, schools, and community groups. It will also work on fostering community and connection among Arlington's LGBTQIA+ population, from youth to families and elders.

The Town strives to have Commission membership reflect the community's diversity.
